Toyota committed to safety of car owners, it has replaced over 19k airbags

The company said as part of these campaigns, it has already replaced over 19,000 Takata airbags in Cyprus to ensure the safety of its vehicles

Toyota Cyprus has said it fully recognises the concerns regarding the recall of vehicles with Takata airbags and is “fully committed to the safety of Toyota owners and has conducted several recall campaigns over the last decade”.

In a press release, the company said as part of these campaigns, it has already replaced over 19,000 Takata airbags in Cyprus to ensure the safety of its vehicles.

It further notes that around 85% of the pending Takata recalls are for vehicles imported by traders or individuals outside the official Toyota network – so-called ‘grey imports’. These vehicles were imported to Cyprus without Toyota’s knowledge or assistance, the company clarifies, adding that “Toyota is currently working with the relevant stakeholders and authorities to find appropriate Takata airbag solutions for these ‘grey import’ vehicles with a matter of urgency”.

At the same time, it reminded vehicle owners that if they have not yet proceeded with the replacement of their vehicle’s airbag, they can check via the website of the Department of Road Transport to see if their vehicle is affected by the recall:

To start the Replacement Process, vehicles with European Type Approval EC-WVTA (European Specifications) (e.g., Cyprus, United Kingdom, etc.) should visit: https://forms.toyota.com.cy/recalls/eu-form-en and follow the steps.

For vehicles without European Type Approval EC-WVTA (Non-European Specifications), (e.g., Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, etc.) owners should visit: https://www.toyota.com.cy/forms/recall-enquiry and follow the steps.

The company said the Takata Recall Customer Service Phone is +357 22285700.

It also said that due to the increased number of requests, there are significant delays in the company’s response but it assured that it is making every effort to serve customers as quickly as possible.
