Cyprus President takes part in Ukraine summit in Paris

Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, participates in the Summit on Ukraine in Paris today, Thursday, while he will have a bilateral meeting with French President, Emmanuel Macron, and a trilateral meeting with President Macron and Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun.

As the Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis told reporters at the Presidential Palace yesterday, the summit will take place on Thursday morning, with the participation of a number of leaders, heads of state and government, as well as heads of international organisations.

The aim of the meeting, the Spokesperson said, is to exchange views on the situation in Ukraine, within the framework of an effort to reach a comprehensive peace agreement.

He pointed out that the summit takes on particular importance as it follows the consultations that were held, with the participation of the United States with Russia and Ukraine, within the framework of international efforts for a ceasefire.

Letymbiotis went on to say that the participation of the President in the Paris Summit follows the recent presence of the Republic in the meeting of the Chiefs of the National Guard, on March 11.

According to the Spokesperson, the Republic of Cyprus is participating in the consultations of a small but substantial group of states, working to support the peace process, during which the importance of the role and participation of the European Union will be emphasised, as well as respect for international law and the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of all states.

On the sidelines of the Summit, President Christodoulides will have a bilateral meeting with President Macron, during which issues of bilateral relations, common interest and strengthening the strategic relationship between Cyprus and France will be discussed.

The Spokesperson said that on Friday, a joint meeting will be held between the Presidents of Cyprus, France and Lebanon, during which the latest developments in Lebanon and in the Eastern Mediterranean region will be discussed, within the framework of the ongoing efforts of Cyprus to strengthen regional dialogue and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
